Switzerland ups legal prostitution age from 16 to 18 years old to align with rest of European Union

YAY! Some GOOD NEWS for a change! Switzerland just raised the legal age of doing prostitution and pornography from 16 to 18! Of course we don’t think that anyone of ANY age should be doing porn or being prostituted, but at least this is a step in the right direction! Every bit helps, and hopefully this will help prevent many teen girls in Switzerland from doing porn or prostitution at the ages of 16 or 17!

GENEVA (AFP) – The Swiss parliament voted Tuesday to raise the legal prostitution age from 16 to 18, tightening the country’s liberal sex-trade laws to bring them in line with European standards.

The lower house of parliament voted to change the Swiss penal code to make it illegal to pay for sex with a minor, following suit after the upper house adopted the bill.

Until now, paying for sex with people above 16 — the legal age of consent in Switzerland — was legal in the small Alpine country.

With the law change, prostitutes between the ages of 16 and 18 will not face penalties, but clients who pay for sex with minors will face up to three years behind bars.

Anyone encouraging prostitution by minors, including pimps, and people running brothels or escort services, will face up to 10 years in prison.

The law change also raises the legal age to participate in pornography, making it a crime punishable by up to five years in jail to produce, import, promote, screen or possess pornography featuring minors.

Traci grew up in an abusive home and was raped at the age of 10 by a neighborhood boy. Her career in the sex industry began when she ran away from home at age 15. She obtained a fake I.D. "mainly to get a job…as a waitress, just some sort of employment," Traci says. "I was really desperate."
When she answered an ad for a figure model in a local newspaper, she was quickly swept up into the porn industry. Nude modeling led to a centerfold in Penthouse, which quickly led to hard-core pornography.
"I had stars in my eyes," she recalls. "And I thought, 'Okay…maybe this is a way of having the attention and having everybody like me."
Battling her "self-loathing," Traci says turning to the porn industry was her way of getting attention.
"It wasn't about sex… it was about numbing out, finding a place to put that anger. I was very aggressive…it was vengeance… it was about attention."
