ACTION ALERT: Tell Radisson Not to Host the XBIZ Porn Conference!

20130831-133441.jpg

Please support Pornography Harms (@Porn_Harms) to get Radisson Hotel to say NO to a porn conference! Thanks! :-)

FROM PORN HARMS:

ACTION ALERT: Tell Radisson Hotel to stay out of the porn business and protect their female employees! They are hosting a large porn conference in London. You can email their board of directors here: http://bit.ly/17hbbdA

Excerpt from letter to them: (By Gail Dines of Stop Porn Culture)

“Pornography puts all women at risk by teaching men that women only have value as sexual objects, are always available as willing participants, and are thus legitimate targets of sexual harassment, abuse and rape.

You are [especially] putting at risk all the female employees who work at your hotel during the XBIZ conference because men who sexually abuse women for profit will be staying in your hotel, eating in your hotel, and will be in close proximity to women employees who work at your hotel so they can feed themselves and their families.”

MUST READ ARTICLE: “Why Your Daughter Wants to Be a Porn Star” – by Ex Porn Performer Jennie Ketcham

20130828-102147.jpg

PLEASE READ AND SHARE this GREAT article by ex porn performer Jennie Ketcham on why young women enter the porn industry! As always Jennie (@BecomingJennie) — the author of the powerful memoir I Am Jennie — reveals the painful truth with hard-earned insight and wisdom. EVERYONE should read this article and learn from it, but ESPECIALLY PARENTS, so please read it yourself and then SHARE it with others, especially all parents you know. Thanks! :-)

[Huffington Post] — My departure from the adult business was fairly public. Thanks to Dr. Drew and reality television, I participated in a wide array of televised interviews about my decision to quit porn. From Oprah to Extra! and The View to Tyra, some of our best-known talk show hosts wanted answers to complex questions: Why did I get into porn? What made me quit? I did my best to answer honestly and thoughtfully, not just for myself, but also for my compatriots still in the business, and for all of the young women out there who are a lot like I was when I first disrobed in front of a camera as a part-time job in college. These questions are more relevant than ever today, with the ongoing proliferation of porn in our culture and the potential consequences of participating in porn, both physically and possibly emotionally. A recent Daily Beast feature even addressed the lighter version of this issue. The article discussed how difficult it is to prevent your daughter from morphing into the newest, shiniest feminine archetype: a prince-seeking Disney princess.

Of course, there was no way I could have explained my motivation to enter or exit porn in a 15-minute television interview, and I can’t get to the bottom of it in an article meant to be read over morning coffee. Aside from the fact that, as humans, motivation is an intricate web of rationalizations tangled up with semi-truths and brain functions that can fill out a whole textbook, there are also a whole slew of cultural pressures that impacted my decision and affect young women today in ways that’s difficult to distill and analyze. But here’s what I can tell you:

I have put four years, a Bachelor’s degree in psychology, and the beginning of a Master’s in Social Work between my present self and my past porn career. In this time, and given the fact that I know quite a few girls who have left the biz, I feel like I now understand some of the contributing motivational factors related to getting in and out of the industry. I believe these can easily be applied to the majority of women performing in the adult business. If you are a parent, you might want to take notes, because this has more to do with you than you may wish to admit. In fact, these are the reasons why your daughter wants to be a porn star. (Just in case you’re wondering, I fit numbers 2, 3, 6, 8, 9 and 10. And I loved Disney movies).

1. Because you loved her enough, but you didn’t love her right. You weren’t attuned to your daughter’s emotional state as a child, and now, she has difficulty connecting intimately with other human beings. It’s not that you meant to handicap her. You may even have a bit of a problem with authentic intimacy too, and it’s probably an intergenerational issue, so look to your mom and dad for answers as to how the cycle started in the first place.

2. Because you were her friend, and not her parent (Hello Baby Boomers!). You never set solid parental boundaries, and you failed to teach her about her right to have her personal boundaries respected. Your permissive parenting led to her low self-esteem and crappy social skills. There are four major parenting styles, and I hate to tell you, this one is not the best.

AIDS Healthcare Foundation Explains the Porn Industry’s Silly Spin on Condom Court Decision

20130824-143221.jpg

AIDS Healthcare Foundation has written a great article on the porn industry’s false spin on the recent condom ruling. (The judge said enforcing condom law Measure B is constitutional.) We are so glad AIDS Healthcare is doing such important work to prevent disease and keep EVERYBODY safe and healthy!

[Herald Online] — In an effort to spin a victory from the ashes of defeat, the porn press is trying to say that the federal court decision on condoms in porn was a wash, says the AHF. The theory is that the restrictions placed on enforcement negate the importance of the fact that the court decided that requiring condoms to be used in porn is constitutional. And, that’s why porn has already announced their decision to appeal. No one appeals a victory.

PORN PERFORMER CAMERON BAY TESTS POSITIVE FOR HIV (CONFIRMED)

20130823-134921.jpg

Sadly the positive HIV test of porn industry performer Cameron Bay has been confirmed. Who else may be infected? Testing of exposed individuals is still ongoing…

Note that the porn industry is trying to spin it that she didn’t get infected on set, but even if true, she still almost for certain exposed others in porn to HIV, (and possibly others outside of porn as well). If they were using condoms in porn as they are now unquestionably supposed to per Measure B, then the risk of transmission would have been almost non-existent….

[NY Daily News] — The adult film actress who caused a temporary shutdown of porn production after she tested positive for HIV had the results confirmed.

The 28-year-old porn star, who goes by the name Cameron Bay, tested positive for the virus this week after an earlier screening for sexually transmitted diseases came back inconclusive, the adult news site AVN Media Network reported.

The Free Speech Coalition, an industry trade group, said that additional testing confirmed the positive results.

“We are saddened to report that the tests involving performer Cameron Bay have been confirmed as positive for HIV,” the group said..

“As difficult as this news is for me today, I am hopeful that no other performers have been affected,” Bay said in a release.

“I plan on doing everything possible to assist the medical professionals and my fellow performers. Following that, my long term plan is to take care of myself and my health.”

PORN ACTOR TESTS POSITIVE FOR HIV. Adult industry halts filming; Activists demand condoms on set

20130822-101455.jpg

There is a new HIV case in the porn industry, which shows very clearly how unsafe an industry it is! Despite this and a recent syphillis outbreak, they still oppose condom law! (NOTE: The performer is a woman and has been identified. See updated info at the bottom of this post.)

How sad, corrupt and exploitative can an industry be, that they still place PROFITS over the health and well-being of their workers? Even some active porn performers are beginning to openly object, which is very rare as they usually get attacked or blacklisted for doing so! Some performers are also considering leaving the industry because of this continuing lack of respect for their health and safety by greedy and uncaring directors, producers and company owners. Examples of performers speaking out below:

Katja Kassin @KatjaKassin_XXX 20h

There need to be condoms in porn, mandatory. Plain & simple. Testing is not safe enough!

Katja Kassin @KatjaKassin_XXX 20h

@jhonnyflores34 I already went on a break in June because I wanted to focus on school. Now I don’t think I’m gonna come back

Katja Kassin @KatjaKassin_XXX 19h

@springboksfan I don’t have a choice as a performer. If you ask for a condom you get fired.

Katja Kassin @KatjaKassin_XXX 19h

@springboksfan I’m not anymore special that the next porngirl. Believe me there is no stardom in porn. u cannot freely choose to use condoms

———-

Brittany Andrews @DJMissBXXX 16h

Syphilis, Hep C and HIV all spreading in the Porn Biz. People seriously Wrap it the F**k Up and Use Condoms! #commonsense

Brittany Andrews @DJMissBXXX 15h

@CourtneyCummz #condoms&testing should be mandatory for both gay and straight #solidify

———-

Here’s a performer who left very recently who is also speaking out in favor of using condoms in porn:

alana evans @alanaevansxxx 19h

I have never really felt this way before but with syphillis, hep c, and HIV being passed in our biz, it’s time for condoms. Protect yourself

alana evans @alanaevansxxx 20h

If we all used condoms, this would not be an issue. Happy to say I haven’t been filming since June. I’m done.

———-

[New York Post - L.A.] — The adult film industry announced a moratorium on the making of porn films Wednesday after an actor tested positive for HIV.

The performer was not immediately identified and officials didn’t say when the positive test was recorded.

The actor’s sex partners are currently being tested by doctors with Adult Production Health and Safety Services, which works with the porn industry.

“The moratorium will be lifted once the risk of transmission has been eliminated,” Diane Duke, executive director of the industry trade group the Free Speech Coalition, told The Associated Press in an email.

She added that the actor is not believed to have been infected on a film set.

The industry briefly put a similar moratorium in place last year after nearly a dozen performers were infected during a syphilis outbreak.

Word of the latest moratorium quickly drew critical responses from porn industry opponents. Among them was Michael Weinstein, whose group the AIDS Healthcare Foundation successfully lobbied voters last year to adopt an ordinance requiring actors use condoms in the making of most porn films.

“How many adult film performers have to become infected with an array of preventable sexually transmitted diseases – including HIV, which is not curable – before the porn industry actually complies with the law requiring condom use,” he said in a statement.

UPDATE: The performer has been identified as a woman who goes by the stage name “Cameron Bay.”

“Cameron Bay (NSFW link), a female performer who has reportedly been in and out of the industry since 2010 using names Ashton, Cameron Lane and Ryder, reportedly told industry blog AVN Wednesday that she is the performer who received a possible though unconfirmed HIV-positive test.”

ANTI-PORN VICTORY! – Judge rules condom requirements in porn are constitutional

20130821-105745.jpg

GOOD NEWS! The porn industry has LOST its lawsuit to get out of protecting worker health and safety with condoms! :-)

As usual the porn industry — especially the “Free Speech Coalition” — thought they should be able to avoid the same basic rules that others have to abide by. But the judge disagreed! Yay! :-) Here is what insurance broker Greg Zeboray very appropriately tweeted last night when the news came in…

@GregZeboray:

It is time the @FSCArmy and their supporters accept that not every law they don’t like is a 1st Amendment violation.

That’s right, pornographers! You can no longer get out of following health and safety laws by claiming that having unprotected hardcore sex on film is “free speech”! Go anti-porn team! :-) More details below…

[L.A. Times] — A federal judge on Friday denied the porn industry’s assertion that requiring adult film performers to wear condoms is unconstitutional.

The ruling is the latest setback for producers of adult films who filed a lawsuit to block the implementation of the Los Angeles County Safer Sex in the Adult Film Industry Act, or Measure B.

The measure was approved by an overwhelming majority of county voters last November. It was sponsored by five individuals affiliated with the AIDS Healthcare Foundation, a nonprofit group.

Vivid Entertainment and Califa Productions and porn performers Kayden Kross and Logan Pierce sued the county in January to prevent the implementation of the new law. After county officials declined to defend the measure, the AIDS Healthcare Foundation was granted “intervener” status to defend the law against the porn industry’s lawsuit.

The industry later tried to have the group removed, but the motion was denied.

In Friday’s ruling, U.S. District Judge Dean Pregerson wrote that the AIDS Healthcare Foundation presented evidence of the health risks the measure is targeting. He said the new law seeks to alleviate those harmed in a direct and material way.

“Plaintiffs [adult film industry,] by contrast, have presented evidence from individuals in the adult film industry, but not in the public health or medical profession, who claim testing is so effective and universal that condoms are unnecessary,” Pregerson wrote.

“Today’s ruling … is just a tremendous, tremendous victory, one that will go a long way to safeguard the health and safety of those adult performers working in the industry,” said AIDS Healthcare Foundation President Michael Weinstein.

FILM REVIEW: ‘Lovelace’ – by John Stoltenberg (Co-founder of Men Against Pornography)

20130816-141954.jpg

Here is an excellent and insightful review of Lovelace (@LovelaceMovie) by our anti-porn ally @JohnStoltenberg. Have any of you seen Lovelace (2013) yet? And if so, what did you think?

By the way, we have arranged a video interview with John, who is one of the original founders of Men Against Pornography, and author of several books about pornography harms, and will be doing that sometime in the next month or two and then sharing it with you here. :-)

[DC Metro Theater Arts] — In 1972 some men made a film that did her wrong. Unspeakably and indelibly wrong. The film was named Deep Throat. Now some men—with two women producers—have made a film that does right by her. It’s called simply Lovelace. And cinematic justice has never been so bittersweet.

“Linda Lovelace” was the nom du porn of Linda née Boreman (played luminously by Amanda Seyfried), who as a 21-year-old naif was seduced by a lowlife, snaky charmer named Chuck Traynor (played with alarming menace by Peter Sarsgaard). Theirs was not a love story.

After tricking Linda’s parents (played with poignant depth by Sharon Stone and Robert Patrick) into trusting him, Traynor marries her. Early on he gets arrested and jailed and phones her to bail him out. She never knows what exactly he does for “work” (he’s a pimp); he forbids her to ask him—and pointedly he tells her that a wife cannot testify against her husband. His Svengalian grip on her tightens. He hypnotizes her into ultimate fellatio, beats her, rapes her, pistol-whips her, and peddles her to sleazeballs (played with creepy cred by Chris Noth, Bobby Cannavale, and Hank Azaria), who make the movie that made them gazillions from her suppressed gag reflex.

There have been a few other fine films that have depicted with fearsome veracity men’s controlling violence toward women. What’s Love Got to Do With It (1993), based on Ike Turner’s abuse of Tina, comes to mind. I recall seeing that fiery film in a crowded theater in DC with a predominantly black audience who voluably warned the onscreen Tina (the awesome Angela Bassett) to get the hell out.

Another classic of the genre is Enough (2002), about an abused wife who learns to fight back. It starred Jennifer Lopez in a gut-wrenching performance—perhaps her best screen acting ever. And of course The Accused (1988) belongs on the list. Based on a real-life gang rape and subsequent trial, it starred Jodie Foster in a shattering performance that more than earned her a Best Actress Oscar.

These films are all well and good—but the real money to be made from movies about men’s controlling violence toward women is if the flick gets off dicks. I refer, of course, to pornography. And that’s where Deep Throat came on the scene. It became a chic hit. Esteemed critics such as Norah Ephron and Roger Ebert praised it. Johnny Carson cracked jokes about it. At the time, nobody seemed to notice the bruises that were evident in the film on Linda Lovelace’s body. Nobody seemed to wonder how in the world those bruises got there. Lovelace goes behind the scenes and shows how they got there: Chuck Traynor was beating the crap out of her. For anyone who ever watched Deep Throat in a reverie of sexual release, Lovelace will come as more of a shock than a hypothermic shower. For anyone trapped in a cycle of domestic violence and/or the sex industry, Lovelace will be a signal that there’s an exit. For not only does Lovelace warrant serious awards attention and audience admiration on its filmmaking merits; Lovelace so illuminates the dark side of pornmaking that it’s as if the movie theater’s projection booth has become a lighthouse beacon for saving lives.

The film’s structure is brilliant. The directing team of Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman, who with Andy Bellin wrote the taut and evocative screenplay, created their own new form with which to tell Linda’s story: They used as their point of dramatic departure how Linda’s psychological perspective shifted as her troubles deepened. I personally found it helpful to know about their framework ahead of time, because it made the film’s steadily building tension palpable from the start. But I can readily imagine that for anyone with no foreknowledge of Deep Throat’s true back story, not knowing what to expect heightens the impact of the dramatic reversal to come. First we see the story of Linda’s romance with Traynor and a vision of the making of Deep Throat as if through rose-colored glasses. Jump-cut six years later to a scene where Linda is taking a lie detector test at the behest of the publisher of her autobiography Ordeal, in which she tells what really happened to her. Then the movie backs up and replays the same story but this time with its harsh reality raw—all the beating and prostituting and gang-raping behind the porny fantasy exposed.

Well, not all of it. I’ve read Ordeal. The movie makers left out the worst of what was done to Linda, which was abominable and included forced bestiality. Had they not, I have no doubt, Lovelace would have been not only unreleasable but unwatchable.

But be assured, these movie makers evidence a deeply sensitive intuition about their audience’s sensibility. The camera pulls back, or there’s a quick cutaway, from each instant or event that might so disturb us that it would distract us from the emotional throughline of Linda’s story. This holds true for the sex scenes as well as the violence. The result is that much of this material happens in our mind’s eye, not onscreen.

Plus there’s the absolutely luminescent performance of Amanda Seyfried. If you’ve seen and loved her in, say, Mamma Mia! or Les Misérables (as I have), you will be blown away by the emotional insight she brings to the screen in Lovelace. There is a whole movie going on in her eyes. And it is a wonder to behold.

STATISTICS: Every 30 mins a porn film is made in the US. The USA produces 89% of all pornographic webpages.

20130815-153428.jpg

So it looks like America is not only addicted to CONSUMING pornography, but to MAKING it! ~~ We think that the U.S. should be ASHAMED to be the undisputed “leader” in porn production, which is of course an industry filled with degradation, dehumanization, racism, misogyny and exploitation. What do YOU think?

New Gail Dines Article – The Porn Industry: A Rare Defeat for Corporate Lobbyists

20130814-141841.jpg

Check out this powerful article by Gail Dines on a recent anti-porn success that kept the law in place that requires age verification is done to ensure no underage performers are allowed in porn. (Unfortunately, though, pornographers can still allow their performers to LOOK underaged, as described below…)

“The pornographers use a variety of methods to make female performers look much younger than 18. In place of the usually large-breasted, heavily made-up women that populate much of Internet porn, teen porn sites are filled with young-looking females with petite bodies, small breasts, makeup-free faces with hair in braids or pony tails, surrounded by such childhood props as stuffed animals, bed sheets with flowers, and backpacks with cartoon-character motifs. It is not uncommon for the females to wear school uniforms, have braces on their teeth, and knee-high socks as they engage in hardcore sex.”

UPDATE: College professor who taught Navigating Pornography class sexted with porn star guest speaker

20130812-144513.jpg

It turns out pro-porn college professor Hugo Schwyzer took his “medical leave” due to sexting with a porn performer! — Married and with kids, this porn-promoting professor — who has admitted he’s a fraud — sexted pics of his naked penis to the porn performer and “guest speaker” for his porn class, and yet still defends himself by saying he didn’t break any university rules… Read on for more outrageous statements and details…

[New York Daily News] — While navigating pornography, one California professor got seriously lost.

Hugo Schwyzer, a humanities professor at Pasadena City College who recently taught a class titled “Navigating Pornography,” now openly admits he is something of a “fraud.”

Last week, the tenured professor announced he was going on medical leave after a sexting relationship with an amateur porn star who planned to speak at his class surfaced on various internet sites.

In one particularly salacious exchange, Schwyzer and Christina Parreira traded fantasies about having a threesome with porn superstar James Deen—who also was a guest speaker at Schwyzer’s class—while students watched and masturbated.

“I think your students would really enjoy a live demonstration,” Parreira wrote Schwyzer in a text that was leaked to the porn website TheRealPornWikiLeaks.com. “On the desk with you. I’ll film it so the whole thing will be REALLY professional.”

“Perfect!” Schwyzer replied. “I think they’d think it was pretty hot, honestly.”

In addition to the racy text exchanges, Schwyzer—who is married and the father of two children— also sent pictures of his penis to Parreira.

“I had a bi-polar breakdown. That’s an explanation, not an excuse,” Schwyzer told the Daily News. “And I knew I should have been in therapy and on my meds.”

Speaking to the News from his mother’s home in Carmel-by-the-sea, California, Schwyzer says he has suffered from mental illness for some time.

“I’ve been in and out of institutions for the past 19 years, but managed to get a Ph.D. and a tenure track job,” Schwyzer said.

Perhaps more disturbing than Schwyzer’s fascination with porn stars is the fact that he had managed to parlay it into an academic career as a “male feminist” when, in truth, he received his Ph.D. in Scottish Medieval History.

“When I go back to teaching I’m not going to be teaching porn or gender studies,” Schwyzer said. “A lot of #feminists hated me because they could smell the fraudulence. I was making shit up and I did it over and over again. I was less a professor than a guy running a three-ring circus.”

Now that he has returned to therapy and has resumed taking “a ton” of medication to treat his illness, Schwyzer says he realizes that teaching the course on porn “was done under false pretenses.”

“Porn was of genuine intellectual interest, but I also had an intense desire to get closer to people in the porn industry,” Schwyzer said.

Whether granting interviews about what he has been through is a sign of healing or just another symptom of his illness is something Schwyzer says he has tried reckon with. Whatever the answer, he does hope to return to the classroom before long.

“I’ve put myself on medical leave, but I haven’t broken a single academic rule,” Schwyzer said. “My penis is all over the internet but I haven’t broken the university’s code of conduct.”

Pasadena City College spokesman Juan Gutierrez said last week that he was unaware of Schwyzer’s plans to sit out the fall semester.

“We have not received any direct indication that professor Schwyzer will not be at PCC in the fall,” Gutierrez told the Pasadena Star News. “Should professor Schwyzer indicate that he is in need of any support from the college regarding this situation or health issues, we will extend that support in any way possible.”
