James Franco Promotes Abusive Misogynist BDSM Porn Site Kink(dot)com with His New Documentary “Kink”

20130130-093853.jpg

READ this article about James Franco and his new “documentary” “Kink” that legitimizes and promotes BDSM pornography, and then please SPEAK UP and let him and others know this this is NOT OK, and that both pornography and sadomasochism are HARMFUL, and that BDSM porn is EVEN MORE HARMFUL, as it condones, glamorizes, glorifies and encourages ABUSE, CRUELTY, MISOGYNY, DEHUMANIZATION, AND TORTURE. (As well as all of this occurring during the MAKING of it to the exploited and abused “performers”, of course.) Thanks!

WARNING! GRAPHIC AND DISTURBING CONTENT!

[Daily Beast] (excerpts) — Kink, an X-rated BDSM-porn documentary, opens with a director, who goes by the nom de guerre Maitresse Madeline, grilling her novice male subject with a series of probing questions.

“We are going to tie you up today. We are going to spank you. We are going to flog you. We might cane you. We might paddle you. We like to choke around here. Do you like to get choked? Can we slap you in the face? What about your nipples? Can we clamp your nipples? Can we punch you in the stomach? We’re going to make love to your butthole, too.”

Directed by Christina Voros and produced by the ubiquitous James Franco, the film, which made its premiere at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, paints a sweaty, screaming portrait of life inside Kink(dot)com—the world’s premier BDSM-porn site, made up of 18 subscription sites and housed in the historic San Francisco Armory. The company, founded by Brit Peter Acworth, shoots all its videos in the 200,000-square-foot space that, in addition to room for offices and gear, also has about 50 movie sets.

“I am kinky,” Acworth, who founded the site out of his Columbia University dorm room in 1997, tells The Daily Beast. “I’ve always had an intense desire to be tied up, since childhood, so when I discovered bondage pornography around 17, then I felt, I guess I’m kinky, and that’s OK. So I started a business to help people demystify it and help them find their sexuality.”

BDSM, for the uninitiated, is short for bondage and discipline, dominance and submission, and sadomasochism. And the documentary features behind-the-scenes footage of Kink(dot)com videos of both men and women tied up by ropes, drowned in bathtubs, being shocked in the genitals by an electric wand, and being penetrated by a plethora of DIY industrial-strength “f*ck machines.”

….

Not all stars have had positive experiences with Kink, however. Porn star Aurora Snow appeared in Indietro, Kink’s first feature film, and says that starring in Kink(dot)com films is “a bit of a mind f*ck.”

“They are a company that looks for the moment when a girl has been mentally and at times physically pushed too far; the borderline of tears and pain,” says Snow. “Sometimes talent leaves with giant bruises that take weeks to disappear.”

She adds, “The scenes will push a girl over the edge. It’s standard practice on set to take breaks in between filming and during these breaks the talent is fawned, told how amazing they are, catered to, etc. It makes for a very confusing experience when trying to evaluate one’s own feelings about what’s really happening.”

Hardcore Porn is Chosen as “Editors Pick” for New Twitter Video Service “Vine” and Gets Huge Exposure. Twitter Insists It Was Not Intentional, But a “Human Error”

20130128-121411.jpg

A hardcore porn video was “showcased in the prominent Editor’s Picks section” of Vine today, the new Twitter mobile app. Wow. That didn’t take long! The app was only released last Thursday. Vine allows users to upload and share 6 second video clips, which of course sadly means the service will be flooded with porn in no time, unless it is strictly monitored 24/7 for porn by the owners, which no service has ever done, as far as we know.

Of course Twitter has apologized and said it was a mistake, but we have our doubts. This news story is all over the media, and all of the exposure will drive many people to check out Vine who hadn’t yet heard of it.

So, do you think this was an honest error or a cheap publicity ploy? Hopefully the latter… In any case, please let us know if you’ve used Vine, what you think of it, and if you’ve seen porn on that platform so far, and what the result was if you reported it. Thanks! :-)

[CNN] — Perhaps it was a foregone conclusion, what with the Internet’s proven ability to turn any new technology into a platform for showing naked people.

But Twitter’s new video-sharing app, Vine, is under scrutiny after early adopters started using it to flash six-second porn clips to the app’s users and to the larger Twitter community.

It’s an issue that has Twitter scrambling to appease concerns. And it’s raising questions about how Apple, the only place where smartphone users can currently download the app, will respond after recently banning other apps that provide access to sexual content.

The issue gained attention Monday when Vine users noticed a video of what was described as hard-core pornography showcased in the prominent Editor’s Picks section of the mobile app.

Users took to the comment section of that video to complain. Twitter apologized Monday, saying it was a mistake.

“A human error resulted in a video with adult content becoming one of the videos in Editor’s Picks, and upon realizing this mistake we removed the video immediately,” the company said in a statement sent to CNN. “We apologize to our users for the error.”

Released Thursday, Vine is a Twitter-owned app that lets users create and share videos lasting up to six seconds. As with photo-sharing app Instagram, Vine users can follow other people, whose posted videos show up in a feed on their phones or can be shared on Twitter and Facebook. The app is currently available only for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.

A Missouri Man Groomed a Teen Girl for a Life of Sadomasochism, Gave Her Drugs, Showed Her Internet Porn, Sexually Tortured Her for Years, Made Pornography of her Abuse to Post Online, and Shocked and Nearly Suffocated Her During a Torture Session

20130124-080752.jpg

PLEASE READ this horrifying EVIDENCE that demonstrates how truly harmful so-called “consensual” sadomasochism can be. It also shows how TRULY NON-CONSENSUAL some pornography on the Internet is, and how sometimes REAL TORTURE is occurring to women who are truly ENSLAVED and NOT AT ALL “willing participants.”

Furthermore this story provides evidence of how pornography is used to groom young people for abuse. Finally, it points out that men who watch porn may often unknowingly be taking pleasure in THIS sort of outrageous ABUSE. Most men will of course say that they will only watch porn with willing “consenting adults,” but how can they ever really know for sure that that is true? In any case, PLEASE READ THIS IMPORTANT STORY BELOW, but be forewarned, it is VERY DISTURBING!

SEX AND TORTURE | Missourian will serve 20 years in prison

[Kansas City Star] — A Lebanon, Mo., man accused of sexually torturing a young woman for years admitted Tuesday that he groomed her for a life of bondage and sadomasochism.

Edward Bagley Sr., 45, agreed with prosecutors to serve a 20-year prison sentence.

His guilty plea to using the Internet to entice a minor for illegal sex eliminated the need for a trial, which was to begin next month. In his plea agreement, Bagley admitted that the government could prove he had subjected the woman to harsh treatment for years.

In return for the plea and Bagley’s agreement to a long prison term, prosecutors agreed to drop other serious charges, including counts alleging conspiracy, sex trafficking, forced labor trafficking and document servitude. The agreement also spares Bagley’s young victim from having to testify at trial, though she can speak at sentencing if she chooses.

U.S. Attorney Tammy Dickinson said in a written statement that Bagley’s plea brought “closure to a shocking and horrific case.”

“Six defendants now have been brought to justice for their roles in the brutal sexual torture and enslavement of a young woman who was just a teenager when the victimization began,” Dickinson said.

Defense lawyer Susan Dill noted, however, that her client pleaded guilty only to a narrow violation.

“My client did not sexually torture or enslave anyone, nor did he plead guilty to a charge based on that,” Dill said.

U.S. District Judge Dean Whipple said he would delay formally accepting the plea agreement and binding 20-year sentence until after the court’s probation office prepares a pre-sentencing report.

The plea capped more than two years of hard-fought legal maneuvering.

“What is your plea, guilty or not guilty?” Whipple asked.

“Guilty, your honor.”

He also acknowledged knowingly inducing his victim to engage in prostitution and other sexual activity while a minor.

Prosecutors accused Bagley in September 2010 of abusing his victim for much of the previous decade. Prosecutors at the time called the allegations “among the most horrific ever prosecuted” in western Missouri federal court.

The case came to light in February 2009, when paramedics flew a 23-year-old woman to a hospital after Bagley shocked and nearly suffocated her during a torture session. As she recovered from a heart attack, federal investigators pieced together her story.

According to court records, Bagley met her when she was 16 and dating his son. He learned that she had grown up in foster care, had suffered emotional and sexual abuse, and had suffered a traumatic head injury. She also had “mental deficiencies,” prosecutors said.

Bagley gave her drugs, showed her Internet pornography, and taught her about bondage and sadomasochistic sex, court records said. And the two began a sexual relationship before her 17th birthday.

She joined the Bagley household in 2003 amid promises of her own room, clothes and “a great life.”

Just after the girl’s 18th birthday, in February 2004, Bagley had her sign a “sex slavery contract,” which he contended legally bound her to him forever, according to the initial charges. Bagley also marked her as his property by having her tattooed with a bar code on her neck, an “S” on her back and the Chinese symbol for slave on her ankle.

For the next several years, Bagley committed sadomasochistic acts on her using techniques that prosecutors have described as “flogging, whipping, shocking, choking, piercing” and “sewing.”

Bagley photographed and videotaped many of the sessions.

Defense lawyers have contended that the relationship between Bagley and the young woman was consensual and part of a bondage, domination and sadomasochism lifestyle.

Bagley’s five co-defendants, including his wife, pleaded guilty previously, each admitting that he or she contributed to the scheme to enslave the victim.

James Noel of Springfield acknowledged using electricity to shock her, even though he knew she hated it.

Dennis Henry of Wheatland, Mo., admitted that he had sex with her and drove to California with Bagley and the victim in 2006 for a pornographic photo shoot. He said in his plea agreement that the woman “melted” when she realized that she might have to sustain shocks from a crank telephone that Bagley had brought.

Bradley Cook of Kirkwood, Mo., confessed to watching Bagley torture the woman and participating in the abuse himself. He also admitted that he advised Bagley on how to make money off the victim by selling images of her torture online.

Michael Stokes of Lebanon recounted how he visited the Bagley home up to a dozen times to have sex with the woman or participate in the abuse. He also paid Bagley to participate, once with $300, and at other times with steaks, cigarettes, coats, personalized playing cards and lighters.

Stokes also admitted that he gave Bagley money to construct a motorized machine to which the woman was strapped and then sodomized for hours at a time.

The prospect that Bagley could sustain an argument that his victim had consented to the conduct began to look questionable in December when his wife, Marilyn Bagley, pleaded guilty, acknowledging that she helped prepare the woman for life as a sex slave.

For a time, Bagley’s lawyers had hoped to present evidence that the conduct outlined in the allegations could be considered well within boundaries of the legal bondage, domination and sadomasochism lifestyle. But a judge recently limited anticipated testimony from experts to a general description of the lifestyle without commenting on whether the conduct alleged in Bagley’s case conformed to it.

——————–

The only criticisms we have of the site are:

1) It doesn’t seem to address how PORNOGRAPHY creates demand for prostitution and sex trafficking by TRAINING and PROGRAMMING boys and young men to be CONSUMERS OF COMMERCIAL SEX (or “Johns”).

2) It doesn’t seem to focus enough on what the ideal long term solution is, which is the implementation of the NORDIC MODEL (or SWEDISH MODEL), in which only the “Johns” are arrested, and the prostituted women and children are provided with help services, including exit and transition and transition assistance. (Although it does link to many organizations who support the Nordic Model.)

So we intend to contact them about these concerns, particularly the pornography issue.

In any case, it is still a REALLY GOOD website, so we encourage you to check it out and share it. Thanks! :-)

CamGirls: A billion dollar industry that is growing fast and is visited daily by 5% of the Web’s users

20130119-121514.jpg

Check out this disturbing but informative article on the fastest growing segment of the porn industry: “Cam Girls.” The article is written by CNBC, which sadly seems to be promoting “camming” as a legitimate career and a great way to make lots of easy money. However, they are making it sound much better and more lucrative than it really is, and are leaving out the DOWN SIDES of being a “cam girl,” such as:

1) Risking future embarrassment, as many people WILL find out about it.

2) Having to live with one’s naked pictures and videos on the Web forever, including after one gets married or involved in a relationship, has children, or moves on to a more mainstream job. (If any of those happen.) Note: it is easy for “customers” to record what is on the screen, even in “private sessions”, and then share it with the world at file-sharing or pornography “tube” sites, etc.

3) “Customers” often want cam girls to masturbate with fingers, dildos and other objects inserted into their vagina, mouth or anus, while being willing to engage in or be subjected to degrading “dirty talk.” (I.e. being called a “dirty whore,” or “filthy little slut,” etc.

4) Customers who say even ruder, more insulting and misogynist things are common.

So… It is NOT all rainbows, sunshine and tons of cash pouring in 24/7 like the article implies…

Note: The “cam girl” website, LiveJasmine(dot)com, that is referred to in the article, is the #41th most regularly visited site on the Internet in the U.S., and the 56th in the world. It is also the 3rd most visited porn site on the Internet in the United States. So “camming” is indeed, unfortunately, a very big “business”! :-(

“CAM GIRLS: THE NEW PORN SUPERSTARS” (Article excerpt)

[CNBC] — It’s not just porn films that have been disrupted by the Internet. It’s porn stars, too.

Ten – or even five – years ago, the highest earners of porn were the actresses whose names marqueed big films. Today, they’re more likely to be models who will never perform a hard core sex scene on camera – and whose face will never appear on a DVD cover.

They’re known as CamGirls – and they make their money by stripping in front of a computer webcam, while hundreds – often thousands – of people watch live online, paying anywhere from token amounts to major cash outlays.

The adult webcam industry currently tops $1 billion – and is growing fast, said Sean Phillips, vice president of marketing for SexyJobs(dot)com, a recruitment service for adult models. Collectively, the webcam industry is estimated to be visited daily by some 5 percent of the web’s global users – with one site (LiveJasmine) reaching over 2 percent alone, according to Alexa(dot)com.

“Five years ago, webcam was just about 5 percent of the job offers on our site,” he said at a conference session during InterNext, an adult business convention in Las Vegas that precedes the Adult Entertainment Expo. “Today, we have about 2,500 job offers being made every day on our site –and over half of them are for webcam girls.”

As with any aspect of entertainment – adult or otherwise – some stars make more than others. Doug Richter of Adult Webmaster Empire, which runs LiveJasmine, said the site’s top performer made $34,000 last month – by working just four to five nights per week. (That’s after the site and her agent took their cut.) Another model, who goes by the name “Miss Kitty,” makes $25,000 per month on only two to three weeks of work per month.

And that’s hardly the top of the pile.

Ross Love, owner of the Best Kept Secret Talent Agency, said he has one model who makes as much as $2,000 to $3,000 per night – but limits herself to income of $10,000 per month. Some top models, he said, are making between $75,000 and $100,000 per month on the site MyFreeCams(dot)com.

Each cam site works slightly different, but the idea is largely the same. Viewers head to a website where they’re presented with a huge assortment of models to choose from. Once they pick one, they enter a public forum with other users, where they can chat with the model about anything they’d like and offer “tips” – which can range from just a few cents to thousands of dollars. (Hosting sites generally split the tips with the model.)

For those tips, models will strip – sometimes in “private” sessions, which aren’t viewable to the public. To watch those, users must pay a per-minute fee and often tip on top of that.

AntiPornography.org Update! January 19, 2013 at 07:40AM

Check out this disturbing but informative article on the fastest growing segment of the #pornindustry: “#CamGirls.” The article is written by CNBC, which sadly seems to be promoting “camming” as a legitimate career and a great way to make lots of easy money. However, they are making it sound much better and more lucrative than it really is, and are leaving out the DOWN SIDES of being a “cam girl,” such as:

1) risking future embarrassment, as many people WILL find out about it

2) having to live with one’s naked pictures and videos on the Web forever, including after one gets married, has children, or moves on to a more mainstream job, if any of those happens, (note: it is easy for “customers” to record what is on the screen, even in “private sessions”, and then share it with the world at file-sharing or pornography “tube” sites, etc.

3) “customers” often want cam girls to masturbate with fingers, dildos and other objects inserted into one’s vagina, mouth or anus, while being willing to engage in or be subjected to degrading “dirty talk.” (I.e. being called a “dirty whore,” or “filthy little slut,” etc.

4) customers who say even ruder, more insulting and misogynist things are common.

So… It is NOT all rainbows, sunshine and tons of cash pouring in 24/7 like the article implies…

Note: The “cam girl” website, LiveJasmine.com, that is referred to in the article, is the #41st most regularly visited site on the Internet in the U.S., and the 56th in the world. It is also the 3rd most visited porn site on the Internet in the United States. So “camming” is indeed, unfortunately, a very big “business”! :-(

CAM GIRLS: THE NEW PORN SUPERSTARS (Article excerpt)

[CNBC] — It’s not just porn films that have been disrupted by the Internet. It’s porn stars, too.

Ten – or even five – years ago, the highest earners of porn were the actresses whose names marqueed big films. Today, they’re more likely to be models who will never perform a hard core sex scene on camera – and whose face will never appear on a DVD cover.

They’re known as CamGirls – and they make their money by stripping in front of a computer webcam, while hundreds – often thousands – of people watch live online, paying anywhere from token amounts to major cash outlays.

The adult webcam industry currently tops $1 billion – and is growing fast, said Sean Phillips, vice president of marketing for SexyJobs.com, a recruitment service for adult models. Collectively, the webcam industry is estimated to be visited daily by some 5 percent of the web’s global users – with one site (LiveJasmine) reaching over 2 percent alone, according to Alexa.com.

Some top models, he said, are making between $75,000 and $100,000 per month on the site MyFreeCams.com.

Sexual Addiction and the Power of DENIAL — By Rob Weiss, MSW — Most common forms of denial = ENTITLEMENT, MINIMIZATION, JUSTIFICATION, BLAME AND RATIONALIZATION

20130117-145830.jpg

Here is an informative article by author and expert Rob Weiss that addresses the many forms of DENIAL of obsessive porn users and people who engage in risky and harmful sexually compulsive behavior. This denial is most commonly demonstrated by ENTITLEMENT, MINIMIZATION, JUSTIFICATION, BLAME, and RATIONALIZATION. Sadly many people are only too familiar with such behavior from personal experience, especially women who have tried to address the regular pornography use of their partners.

The BAD news about this is that people who are seriously IN DENIAL of their harmful sexual behaviors won’t usually quit or seek help until their lives (and often the lives of their partner and/or their family) have been seriously devastated in some way, such as by a divorce or by losing their job. The GOOD news is that when that happens, there IS help available to assist them in freeing themselves from their harmful compulsive or obsessive behavior.

Please read the article excerpt below to learn more, and please feel free to share in the comments if you have ever observed or had to deal with any of the outlined behaviors. Thanks! :-)

Note: The article is technically about “addicts”, but the points about DENIAL and the associated behaviors are sadly true about most porn and sex trade users in general, as many of their partners can unfortunately confirm.

[Psych Central] [Excerpt] — Essentially, denial is a series of internal lies and deceits. Typically, each lie has its own rationalization, and based on that imperfect foundation the addict’s sexual behaviors can seem utterly reasonable to the addict in the moment of his or her obsession. The rest of the world would easily see through the smokescreen, but the addict cannot (or will not), repeatedly defending the lies and deceit until his or her functional world disintegrates into divorce, disease, job loss, arrest, etc. Often it is only in a crisis that that the addicted individual will finally become willing (and able) to examine the appallingly shaky foundation upon which his or her sexual house of cards has been built.

IT’S NOT MY FAULT!

On some level, even though their compulsive sexual fantasies and behaviors are clearly harming both themselves and others, sex addicts oftentimes feel as if they are the victim. This is their justification. Defending their sexual behavior patterns to themselves and others, many say they are at the mercy of people or problems in their lives, and that sexual acting out gives them a sense of freedom and control they do not experience elsewhere. These men and women see themselves as burdened by the seemingly unceasing demands of other individuals, especially those close to them, for attention, participation, validation, and support. Not surprisingly, they find it difficult to know what their own emotional needs are, and nearly impossible to ask directly for those needs to be met. Unfortunately, feeling like a victim leads to feeling entitled to act out, which of course leads to the behavior itself.

For sexually addicted individuals, denial takes many forms, the most common of which are listed below.

ENTITLEMENT: Just look at how hard I am working. I give and give and give to my family and the company. I work nights, and sometimes even weekends. There just isn’t any time left for me. But I deserve a little bit of pleasure in life. It can’t be all work and no play. So if I spend a few hours here and there online, getting off on a little fantasy, that’s a reward I deserve for all the work that I do and all that I give to others.

MINIMIZATION: I’m no different than any other guy. All of us are on Grindr, waiting for our smartphone to buzz and let us know there’s someone nearby who wants to have sex. Everybody does it. We meet somebody online, we have sex, and then we brag about it the next day. Besides, I’m not in any danger. I’m a big boy, and I can handle myself. And I can tell when someone is too weird or into drugs from the kind of things they write me, so I don’t get into those situations to begin with.

JUSTIFICATION: This is what single girls do. If I’m not in a relationship, then I need some kind of excitement. And all I’m doing is chatting up guys on Facebook, dating sites, and a couple of apps. It’s a lot better than sitting around in some cheesy bar waiting for someone to buy me a drink. Plus, it gives me something to look forward to after work. It’s exciting and distracting, and I don’t even have to leave my apartment. And if some of those guys seem nice and want to come over for a quickie, there’s nothing wrong with that. After all, if I was in a relationship I’d be having sex every night, so why can’t I have sex every night when I’m not in a relationship.

BLAME: With the lousy sex life I have at home, who wouldn’t be looking at porn and chatting up women online for sex? Ever since we had kids, my wife doesn’t have time for me. Plus, she’s put on a lot of weight. It’s like she got what she wanted (the kids), and now she feels like she doesn’t have to worry about me anymore. Plus, even when we were having sex it was totally vanilla. She never wanted to try anything new or interesting, whereas some of the women I meet online are up for anything.

RATIONALIZATION: I’m not having affairs like some of the other women I know. I’m not even flirting with the doctors at work, even though most of the other nurses do. So if I go online for a few hours after my husband falls asleep at night and have my secret little intrigues, no one gets hurt and nothing comes of it. Lots of women are reading Fifty Shades of Grey and nobody thinks they’re doing anything wrong, so why am I?

Prominent Porn Production Company Vivid Suing Los Angeles County Over New Condom Law. Considering Moving Out of L.A.

Porn company Vivid is upset about having to follow workplace health and safety rules and use condoms. So they’re suing Los Angeles County so they can do what they want and risk the health of their performers. Why? Because having to use condoms might cost them some of their obscene profits! Poor greedy, uncaring and abusive pornographers… You know what they say… “It’s hard out there for a pimp! ” ~ To learn more and hear the excellent response of the AIDS Healthcare Foundation, check out the article below.

[LA Times] — One of the nation’s most prominent pornography producers is suing Los Angeles County in federal court to overturn a new law requiring actors to wear condoms during filming.

The suit by Vivid Entertainment, filed Friday in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles, says the 1st Amendment’s protection of free expression was violated after 57% of L.A. County voters approved the condom-porn measure during the Nov. 6 election.

“The exercise of 1st Amendment freedoms cannot be limited by referendum,” the suit said. The ordinance stands “as an unconstitutional prior restraint upon protected expression.”

Steven Hirsch, Vivid’s founder and co-chief executive officer, said in an interview: “We will fight for our right to express ourselves as we please.”

Paul Cambria Jr., the lead attorney on the case, said Measure B infringes upon how directors make films. “Let’s assume that we’re filming an adult movie and it was taking place in the swashbuckler times. All of a sudden, Captain Jack slips on a condom.

“Obviously, that would basically destroy the movie, because it would be fake. Obviously, people would know that couldn’t have happened then,” Cambria said.

Supporters of the condom-porn measure say Measure B does not violate the 1st Amendment. They say it is a health and safety measure aimed at protecting porn performers from contracting HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases.

“This is not a free speech issue. This is a workplace safety issue,” said Michael Weinstein, president of the AIDS Healthcare Foundation. “If they want to digitally remove a condom” from the final cut of a film, “there’s no issue.”

Hirsch said such special effects are “cost-prohibitive and it puts me in a place where we’re not on a level playing field” with other adult-film performers based outside of the county.

Measure B requires that porn producers purchase public health permits to film in the county, and mandate condom use as a condition of that permit. The ordinance took effect in December, but the county has not decided how to enforce the law.

Hirsch said he wanted to overturn the measure to allow the porn performers and producers to remain in Los Angeles.

Sex Trafficking’s Reverberations: Powerful Radio Interview with Pornland author Gail Dines and Norma Ramos on How Pornography and Prostitution Fuel DEMAND for Sex Trafficking

              20130112-132236.jpg               20130112-132112.jpg

PLEASE LISTEN to this EXCELLENT and VERY INFORMATIVE Gail Dines and Norma Ramos interview. Gail is the author of the MUST-READ Book Pornland, and Norma is the Executive Director of the Coalition Against Trafficking in Women (CATW) (@CATWIntl). They share tons of helpful info and insights on the harms of the international sex trade and how all aspects of it are connected to each other. They also address the successes of the Nordic Model of dealing with prostitution and sex trafficking, in which the CRIMINAL PERPETRATORS (the pimps, johns and traffickers) are arrested and held accountable, but their VICTIMS (the prostituted women and children) are NOT, but are instead given services to help exit the sex industry and to transition to a healthier life.

So… please start listening, learning and being inspired! Thanks! (And please don’t forget to like, comment and share to spread the word and support the cause. Thank you! :-) )

Growing Up, Moving On In Porn’s Shadow – The sad childhood of the daughter of a famous pornographer

20130111-111256.jpg

READ this powerful story of Liberty Bradford Mitchell growing up as a pornographer’s daughter: “As passive as her exposure was to pornography, it was always there – and it was in fact a form of sexual abuse.” — “I remember one afternoon, I was maybe 6, when I was at the theater and I followed my dad into a screening room,” she says of her exposure to rough-cut porn. “I sidled up in a chair and sat cross-armed like my dad, staring analytically at the screen just like my dad. I remember my dad’s employee saying, ‘Should she be watching this?’ and my dad said, ‘She doesn’t know what she’s seeing.’”

Wow! That doesn’t mean that this exposure to hardcore porn as a very young child didn’t have a harmful effect on her! Not to mention the MURDER of her pornographer father by her pornographer uncle! Check out the excerpt below to learn more and then read the full story at the link.

[SF Gate] — As a child, Liberty Bradford Mitchell sat through one of her dad’s rough-cut porn movies. As an adolescent, she was given her first safe-sex talk by her dad’s girlfriend – a porn star.

Then, at age 20, on Feb. 27, 1991, she learned that her father, Artie Mitchell, had been slain by her uncle, Jim Mitchell.

“Murder was a bigger stigma than pornography had ever been,” she says.

Such was the life of Bradford Mitchell, whose father and uncle operated the Mitchell Brothers O’Farrell Theatre in San Francisco and produced one of the first feature-length porn movies, “Behind the Green Door,” starring Ivory Snow model Marilyn Chambers. The 1972 film made the brothers tens of millions of dollars and got them invited to the Cannes Film Festival and minted as porn kings.

Bradford Mitchell is now 42, living in Los Angeles and mother to two children, ages 11 and 7. She has a new one-woman show, “The Pornographer’s Daughter,” which will premiere in March at a theater in Venice (Los Angeles County). She is in talks with a major network television producer to write a miniseries and hopes that her multimedia show will find a home onstage in San Francisco, where the story takes place.

PIONEERS OF PORN

In an opening line of the new production, which will incorporate music and video, Bradford Mitchell says, “I was born a Leo in the summer of 1970. My parents were hippies who dropped way too much acid before naming their children.

“They emerged as pioneers of the porn industry, became millionaires, and poured a lot of money into Mercedes, marijuana and cocaine, lap dances, poker games and high jinks.” The theater was called “the Carnegie Hall of public sex in America” by writer Hunter S. Thompson, who worked as night manager at the strip club while researching a book he never completed.

Bradford Mitchell has her dad’s face and eyes and the mellow mien of her post-hippie upbringing. But her edge is sardonic, befitting a woman who grew up “with G-strings grazing my nose,” who watched “Little House on the Prairie” at home and stopped by her dad’s “office,” the adult theater, after school. A woman whose father urged her to party and admonished her for being a “terminal square.”

Two days before her father was killed, Bradford Mitchell – a theater student at USC – came to San Francisco to organize an intervention. Her dad, whose nickname was “Party Artie,” had gone on the wagon on his own and was not doing well. He had been banned from coming to work because of his erratic behavior, which included shooting up the office dart board with his pistol.

FATHER’S STRUGGLE WITH DRUGS

Sitting in a cafe in North Beach, Bradford Mitchell recalls how her dad was trying to make changes in his life, and was working on opening a music club (which he had asked her to manage). He was talking about moving to Mexico to dry out for six months. Anytime a rock star or celebrity visited the Mitchell Brothers, Party Artie was expected to show them a good time.

“My dad was tired of the business, and at that point, it kind of ran itself,” she says. “He’d go and play golf and fish. But he was having a hard time with the drugs. I went to see Jim – it was the first time I’d ever sought his counsel, as he was always kind of a scary figure to us kids – and said, ‘We need to do an intervention.’ He said, ‘We can’t do it because of who we are. We are too well known.’ ” She thought the response was bizarre, but odd was the norm in her family.

Bradford Mitchell’s blue eyes well with tears remembering what happened next.

“My mom called and told me my dad was murdered – and by my uncle,” she says. “Jim had grabbed a rifle and a pistol, drove from his house at Ocean Beach to Corte Madera, where my dad was renting a house. He slashed my dad’s tires and went in and just started shooting.”

VIDEO: How is porn affecting kids? – Dr. Drew HLN interview of “Sexy Baby” documentary team

Check out this excellent Dr. Drew HLN video about the Sexy Baby Movie documentary addressing pornography’s effects on girls: “Porn is now easily accessible to kids everywhere with the use of today’s technology. But are parents keeping up with what their kids are being exposed to? ‘Our parents and all the generations before us have never had this so accessible. And because me and all of my friends do, we don’t really have anyone to kind of show us what to do,’ teen Winnifred Bonjean Alpart, star of “Sexy Baby”, told HLN’s Dr. Drew Tuesday night.”

Winnifred also wisely said many other insightful things on the show, including the very accurate and important statement: “PORN SEX IS NOT REAL SEX.” So true!

http://www.hlntv.com/video/2013/01/08/porn-its-effect-young-girls

In an earlier segment on the show Dr. Drew raised the issue of whether the use of violent and degrading pornography contributed to the horrific group rape of a teen girl in Steubenville, Ohio that recently has been on the news. Thank you, Dr. Drew! We think that porn use and the resulting rape culture we live in likely DOES have a great deal to do with that rape, as well as the appalling behavior of the young men who were videotaped joking about it. In the Booth with Ruth – Michelle Sweeney, Anti-Human Trafficking Activist

Check out this great interview by Ruth F. Jacobs with Michelle Sweeney on her anti-trafficking activism journey. Please note that PORNOGRAPHY FUELS TRAFFICKING in many ways, including the following: 1) It TRAINS boys and men to be CONSUMERS of women and girls as sexual commodities, 2) It PROGRAMS their sexuality to be aroused by degradation, cruelty, and violence. ~ As this helpful and very inspiring interview shows, ANYONE can get involved with activism against sex trafficking and exploitation and really make a difference, so we hope you will follow the excellent examples set by Ruth and Michelle and do the same. YOUR EFFORTS ARE NEEDED! Thanks! :-)

Interview with “Pornland” author Gail Dines about the harms of pornography during her recent trip to Iceland

Check out this great interview! Gail makes many good points as always, including how using hardcore, misogynist and dehumanizing pornography trains boys and young men to become “johns” who consume prostituted and trafficked women and girls as sexual commodities.

[Yahoo News] — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents announced today they have rescued 44 children from sexual abuse as part of a child pornography investigation that netted 245 arrests over five weeks late last year.

Agents have identified an additional 79 individuals who have been abused as children including 24 victims who now may be adults and are seeking the public’s help to identify individuals who are alleged to be sexually abusing young children, with the images posted on the Internet.

“Many times, our investigations into people who possess and trade child pornography reveal new material that points to the ongoing sexual abuse of children. In these cases, our primary objective is to rescue the victim from their horrific situation. And our next step is to arrest and seek prosecution for their abusers,” said ICE Director John Morton in a statement.

Among those arrested: Bradley Vaine from Fresno, Calif., who was allegedly abusing a 7-year-old girl who suffered from mental disabilities. Also arrested was Samuel Gueydan from Clovis, Calif., who allegedly had over 1.2 million images and 7,000 videos of child pornography on his computer, ICE said.

The investigation was dubbed “Operation Sunflower” to commemorate the anniversary of a case where agents discovered evidence that a child was in imminent danger of being raped by a relative. According to ICE, the tip initially came from Dutch investigators who found Internet postings suggesting the girl was in imminent danger.

Investigators turned up an image of the girl taken in a moving vehicle. The image held a critical clue — a road sign in the background containing an image of a sunflower. A sharp-eyed agent discovered the sunflower emblem was unique to road signs in Kansas. ICE agents spent several days combing Kansas highways to find the exact spot where the photo was taken. Eventually they traced the location, which led them to the girl, sparing her from being further victimized, the agency said.
